The deplorable nature
of the Elmina Bridge is posing a negative effect to the patronage of the Elmina
Castle by tourists.
According to the Tour
officer of the Elmina Castle Clliford Eshun revealed that in June last year
they had nine thousand tourists that toured the facility for the month and June
this year they recorded six thousand tourists with a short fall of three thousand.
He said they have tried
to inform the Ghana Highway Authority and the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem
Municipal Assembly however for over a year it has proved futile.
Portion of the concrete
floor walkway has collapsed and the steel are rapidly rusting away make the
bridge structurally week.
Vehicles at the moment
cannot use the bridge that links the castle and the turn hence tourists are
unable to visit the castle.
