B.TECH. STUDENTS CALLED TO REORIENT THEIR THINKING


The Head of Department has called on the final year B.TECH & HND students to reorient their thinking on patronising sustainable construction. He appealed to the students to look at the challenges facing the construction industry in their environment.

He made this known when the Building Department of Cape Coast Polytechnic  organised a  seminar  on the theme 'Sustainable construction in the building industry' at the B.TECH lecture room.The speakers of the seminar included Marieke Kraaij- Shalkwijk, Martin Kraaij from Netherlands and Stephen Agyefi-Mensah of the department. Marieke Kraaijk-Shalkwijk presented a paper on Sustainable Design: The Netherlands Experience &Its Relevance for Ghana. She appealed to building technologists to use local materials that are environment friendly such as thatch roof and bamboo construction. 

While Martin presented a paper on A Maintenance Plan for Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, he called for maintenance plan to be enforced in order for maintenance to be carried out regularly.Martin and Marieke gave insight to some of the master programmes offered in Endihoven University of Science and Technology.
