CHIEF OF CAPE COAST SAVES MCE FROM CONTEMPT CHARGE

By: Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei
The Chief of Cape Coast Osabarimah Kwesi Atta II has pleaded to the High Court Judge in Cape coast to pardon the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast Priscilla Arhin of contempt.
In the month of October the concerned traders of Kotokruba market appealed to the High court to place an injunction on the construction of the market pending certain facilities are provided at the temporary market for the traders before the demolition of the old market can be carried out.
Despite the court injunction the assembly headed by the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast Priscilla Arhin withdrew the services of the security guarding the market and fenced a portion of the market preventing traders from selling their goods. Some of the traders had to remove their goods from the stores and sell on the street while others have refused to go to the temporary market because of complaining that the temperature in the shed is very high due to the metal they used to construct the shed.
For the intervention of the Osabarimah Kwesi Atta II she could have been sentenced to jail base on contempt of the court. However she was asked to write an undertaken of restoring all services she withdrew. Some of the traders were happy with the decision of the court.
Just last month The District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa Bossman Osei – Hyiamang Jnr. was jailed 14 days by a Cape Coast High Court for contempt of court.
