By: Kwamina Bamfo-agyei
According to an eye witness the fire was detected around 9:30pm on Sunday January 26th 2014 when the feast of the patron St. Francis De Sales was concluded.
The fire destroyed historical documentation of the church since it was the first Cathedral in Cape Coast.
According to the eye witness it took the fire service some time to arrive at the scene due to the nature of the access road the building is constructed on a hill, however they managed to extinguish the fire.
According to an official of the Church noted that they decided to compensate the owner of the building that was obstructing the access road leading to the church but that arrangement was not considered by the landlord of the property.

The cause of the fire is yet to be disclosed by the Ghana National Fire Service.
