Elmina's young dressmakers honored

By Axel Patsch

On April 12th, 45 young ladies from the Elmina area received their diploma for completing their six months apprenticeship in „Youth in trade and vocations module (dressmaking)“ by the Office of the National Youth Employment Program.

They were honored by several local celebrities who held speeches on Elmina's town square. Unfortunately, not all of the originally 62 students could complete the program. In addition to their diploma, every fresh dressmaker received a brand new sewing machine, sponsored by the government. To help the young ladies to start an own business, they can also get a loan to open their own shop. Local politicians and a representative of the Ghana National Association of Taylors and Dressmakers were very happy about the success of the program as this should encourage more young people to participate in such a program and pointed out the motto „Empowering the youth with technical and vocational skills for a better Ghana“.
