Polytechnic graduates have been urged to become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others rather than seek jobs which do not exist.
The Central Region Branch Manager of the State Insurance Company of Ghana (SIC), Nana Obuoba Serfour Bofa, made the announcement when he delivered the keynote address on the theme “Creating Entrepreneurial Awareness and Empowerment among Tertiary Students” at the first Central Press Business Forum at Cape Coast Polytechnic campus.
He noted that the nation had been bedeviled by unemployment because graduates at the tertiary level are not trained and encouraged to establish their own businesses but rather are taught on how to look for jobs after school, a situation that is compounding the unemployment situation in Ghana.
He appealed to the youth to strive to create something for themselves rather than hope for non-existing jobs, which never materialise.
A Board Member of Central Press Newspaper, Mr. Victor Tum Savage, appealed to graduates of the tertiary institutions to have entrepreneurial spirit to make it independently in life.
The Editor of the Central Press Newspaper, Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei, said the aim of the forum was to educate the students on establishing their businesses, make them creative while in school. He was optimistic that in the near future those who attended the programme would establish their own businesses.
The Branch Manager of the National Investment Bank in Cape Coast , Madam Anne Afele, who spoke on investment opportunities appealed to students to cultivate the savings culture and invest toward their futures.
The Chief Analyst of Strategic Currency Research, Franklin Afortey Roosevelt, educated the participants on the importance of Venture Capital and how they can source funding for their projects.
