Polytechnic students have been advised to focus on
entrepreneurship education programmes during their studies in school.
The Rector, of the Polytechnic of Sokoto State,
Nigeria Professor Garba, said this during the maiden convocational lecture.
Prof B. Garba explained that, education being it
formal or informal, has always been recognized as veritable tool for human
development and survival and it has always tended to improve persons knowledge
and skills which one can face life’s challenges.
He went on that, although knowledge of basic
concepts and skills which they can apply in a wide range of situations are
being taught, they must also develop the broad-based skills that will benefit
them on successful completion of their respective programmes.
Again he said, mainstreaming entrepreneurship in the
polytechnic system will entail that, theory be backed by practice to the extent
that within the study period of every student, he/she would have practiced
making money legitimately from the skills being acquired.
He assured the student that, Sokoto State polytechnic
is planning to introduce ‘’The National Vocational Qualifications’’ in line
with the NBTE guidelines.

congregation that witnessed over 21,000 graduates that were awarded with
diploma certificates from 2001 to 2013 academic years.
