TWIFO ATTI-MORKWA JAILED DCE GIVEN TRIUMPHANT WELCOME BY TRADERS

By: Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei
The convicted District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa Bossman Osei – Hyiamang Jnr. was given a triumphant welcome by the traders of Twifo Atti-Morkwa on Tuesday morning.

He stopped at the market at the centre of the issue that resulted in his contempt sentence at the Maximum Security Prison Ankaful for 14 days. Traders were thrilled to see him they had on their ply cards “You are our Hero” “Touch not my Anointed” “ Our Able DCE”. The traders noted that they are happy with the market and appealed to the judiciary to rule in favour of the DCE since he is fighting for their development.

At a media briefing with The Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Bossman Osei – Hyiamang Jnr. expressed gratitude to all Ghanaians especially traders in his area for the support shown to him while he was imprisoned, he explained why he was not at the court when ordered to appear before the court that he was in Accra seeking for a support from the Interior ministry of a fire tender and happily he has received a letter granting him is request. He admitted that those that took the case to court are all NPP members who were not happy to see the good works he was performing. He reiterated that he is not ashamed to be imprisoned since he was ensuring that his people get their fair share of development.

He noted that his crime was to see that the traders transact their businesses in the new market that was constructed over 12 years ago by the EU. Apparently most traders especially women refuse to trade in that market due to a superstitious believe that the god of a river will not allow females to cross the river during the market days.

However the DCE succeeded in demolition the old market for the traders to move in the new market where there is a police post and a fire service station. Hence some traders decided to take the DCE to court for forcing them out of their old market. At the first case the court ruled in favour of the DCE but the traders went for appeal.

The court on August 21, this year, ordered a bailiff to effect a service on Hyiamang in connection with a case involving the demolition of the Twifo-Praso market, which the Assembly was to undertake but was challenged at the court by one Alhassan Suleiman.

The court learnt that the bailiff went to the DCE to give the service document to him, but did not meet him and was informed that Hyiamang was at the market.

When he followed up and attempted to give the document to the DCE, he refused to collect it and moved away.

According to the bailiff he approached the DCE for the second time with the document and when he refused to collect it, he was compelled to place it beside him as the law demands and this infuriated Hyiamang who rained insults him.

The DCE was last week jailed 14 days by a Cape Coast High Court for contempt of court.
