TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION OF GHANA DECLARES STRIKE ACTION

The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana has declared strike action due to the fact that the government failed to implement the National Labour Commission’s ruling of 28 October.
The ruling directed that government pay generic allowances which comprise Electricity, off-campus, car maintenance, security and rent allowances by the end of December 2019.
The President of the association Dr. Solomon Keelson noted that in December salaries were paid without the said allowances with no official communication to that effect. He revealed that some officer holders received some amounts that were far below the National Labour Commission’s ruling, indicating that government refusal to comply with the ruling.
Dr Keelson emphasized that government through National Council for Technical Education is trying everything to make sure Technical Universities are not fully migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Pay structure for Public Universities.
He added that the strike action affects teaching, invigilation and marking of scripts. All other services will continue until otherwise determined in the next association’s congress.
