CAPE COAST POLYTECHNIC PRODUCES DEGREE GRADUATES

Cape Coast Polytechnic has graduated students of the three batches of the Bachelor of Technology Building Technology who offered the programme.
They are the 2010, 2011 and 2012 groups, according to the Rector of Cape Coast Polytechnic Dr. Lawrence Atepor noted that they encountered several challenges and just few months back that the institution finally concluded affiliation arrangements with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for the certification of the Bachelor of Technology, Building Technology.
A total of one thousand two hundred and thirty-three graduands were awarded their degree and diploma certificates. It comprises one hundred and sixteen degree graduates; one thousand and twenty diploma graduates and ninety- eight Executive Certificate graduates.

Dr. Atepor noted that a memorandum of Understanding between Cape Coast Polytechnic and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for the introduction of Master of Technology programmes in Construction Technology and Civil Engineering. He said that the collaborative move by the polytechnic is in line with the government’s vision of upgrading polytechnics into Technical Universities as it would build the needed capacity for the polytechnics.
Dr. Atepor appealed to the President to fulfill his promise made to the institution during the election campaign of the construction of hostel and auditorium.

Ato Adams Tedy of Building Technology and Godfred Yaya were adjudged the overall Best graduands at the 10th congregation of the Polytechnic. Ato Adams Tedy was awarded the Bamfo-Agyei’s Excellence Award as the overall Best graduates for Building Technology and Sara Tekorang was awarded the Agnes Boham’s Award as the Best Female in Construction.
The Vice President H.E. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has noted that the GETFund should not be seen as the panacea to all problems facing the educational sectors. Rather he said the tertiary institutions should be proactive, businesslike and aggressive in promoting and marketing their capabilities to the public as well as the private sector.

CAPE COAST POLYTECHNIC LECTURERS NOT HAPPY WITH DELAY OF RESEARCH & BOOK ALLOWANCES

Lecturers of the Cape Coast Polytechnic are agitated over delays in the payment of their research and book allowances.
In an interview granted by a lecturer at the Cape Coast Polytechnic, said the delay in the payment of their book and research allowances was gravely affect...ing academic work hence the agitation.
“The delay is negatively affecting academic work. The previous academic year has already ended and the research allowance that we are expecting is for that academic year. We are in a new academic year and so far we have not had a research allowance for the previous academic year,” he said.
According to him, most lecturers in the polytechnic "are expecting that hopefully by the end of this month, government can release that money to us so that we can be on track with regards to research and updating our knowledge.”

THE STATE OF KOTOKURABA MARKET TODAY

This is the state of the Kotokuraba Market today September 12, 2013. A one-story temporary structure has been constructed.
Last week Saturday the Paramount Chief of Cape Coast Osabarima Kwesi Atta II sa...id the project is being constructed on a 5km/hour base which is not the best for the traders who had to sell their goods in the atmosphere during the raining season and the hot weather.
Last year the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Ebo Barton Odro noted that the Government of Ghana has secured a loan from EXIM Bank China to construct modernised the market.

CONSTRUCTION OF KOTOKURABA MARKET IS 5KM PER HOUR- EXPEDITE ACTION

The Paramount Chief of Cape Coast Osabarima  Kwesi  Ataa II has appealed to the government to expedite action on the construction of the Kotokuraba market and the Cape Coast Stadium.
Osabarima Kwesi Atta II was speaking at the just ended Oguaa  Fetu  Afahye in Cape Coast. He noted that the project is being constructed on a 5km/hour base which is not the best for the traders who had to sell their goods in the atmosphere during the raining season and the hot weather. He appealed to all citizens of Cape Coast to support the development of the ancient town.
This year’s theme was: “Harnessing the Human Resource Potential of Youth in Oguaaman for Effective Local Development”.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II
Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, commended Nana Akufo-Addo for accepting the Supreme Court verdict and asking his supporters to ensure that peace prevailed. He also commended the general public, particularly the youth, for not resorting to violence acts after the Supreme Court ruling.
The Vice President of Ghana, H.E.  Kwesi Amissah-Arthur assured the chiefs and people of Cape Coast that both the construction of the kotokuraba market and the stadium will be completed by the end of the first term of Mahama’s regime. He said  the Government has fulfilled all the financial commitments for work to begin on the construction of the Kotokuraba Market Complex in Cape Coast.
On his part the Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong,was not happy that despite the potentials of the region in terms of education and tourism activities the region is said to be poor , he appealed to all to find a lasting solution to the challenges facing the region.
He commended the planning committee of this year’s festival for dedicating the festival to the youth of Cape Coast , since it will assist in  accelerating development.

MOTOR ACCIDENT CLAIMS THREE LIVES IN CAPE COAST

A day after the Oguaa Fetu Afahye three people died on the spot, through motor accident on the National Highway road. The accident occured around 1:45am, there was a head on collision involving a saloon car and a tipper truck according to eyewitness the driver of the saloon car was trying to overtake when it collided with the tipper truck.
The driver of the saloon car , happens to be the brother of  the  Cape Coast branch manager of MTN, and a past female student of Cape Coast Polytechnic died on the spot. The registration number is CR 1254-12.
According to a friend of the Branch Manger of MTN he told is official driver to take him home around 1:30am from where MTN was organising Fetu Music programme but his driver said he is unable to drive because he has taken some alcohol, but the deceased MTN manager called his brother to drive him home and Abigail Ferguson a past students of Cape Coast Polytechnic who was a National Service Personnel with Briwa Vocational school pleaded to be alighted at the school where they met their untimely death.

GLOBAL HOST PROJECT CONSTRUCTS TEN -SEAT WATER CLOSET TOILET FACILITY IN DUAKOR

 As part of solving the sanitation challenges in Duakor, Global Host Project in collaboration with some students from Western Michigan University, Sean & Connie Bashaw and Edward Fletcher Foundation have constructed a 10-Seat toilet facility in the area.
Since the establishment of Duakor community in the Cape Coast Metropolis, the community has been lacking public toilet facility.
Global Host Project in April, 2012, identified a catalogue of  various developmental challenges  of the people of Duakor and its adjoining villages, priority among which were poor environmental sanitation,  lack of public toilet facilities, nonexistent of computers in the basic and JHS to sharpen pupils skills in Information and communication technology.

The Country Director of Global Host Project, Kwesi Sampson noted that barely three months after the Project cited Duakor’s needs; the organization donated laptops and set up a Computer centre at the Okyeso catholic Basic and JHS in July 2012.
He said the organization re-affirmed its affiliation with the people and initiated a proposal to provide 10- seat water closet toilets facilities along the Coastal stretch to reduce the incidence of preventable accidents restore their dignity and promote tourism on the beach front. Mr. Sampson appealed to the residents to maintain the facility.
The Executive Director of Global Host Project Nicole Beauchamp expressed her gratitude to all who supported the initiative in realizing the construction of the public toilet.

The Chief of Duakor Torgbui Ayix II noted that nobody has constructed a public toilet for them, hence was grateful to Global Host Project and her partners for assisting the community. He latter enstooled Mr. Sean Bashaw as a developmental Chief for the area with is stool name as Torgbui Adika Dzorkpe.
